Odyssey Aviation Bahamas Completes New Facility in Exuma

Two new handling locations opened just in time for busy spring traffic

Nassau, The Bahamas (February 20, 2012) – Odyssey Aviation Bahamas officially opened a new, full-service, fixed-based operator (FBO) facility at the Exuma International Airport (MYEF) in the Bahamas on February 20, 2012. The private aviation services provider also began offering handling services on November 14, 2011 at two new Bahamian locations – Governors Harbour Airport and Rock Sound Airport – both located on the island of Eleuthera.

Odyssey Aviation Exuma’s new 2,500-square-foot facility, which commenced construction mid-May 2011 on the southeast side of the field, is the first private terminal at Exuma International. The new facility operates independently from the main terminal with its own customs and immigration clearance area located within the facility. It features a new spacious pilots’ lounge, flight planning room, refreshment bar, passenger lounge, private fuel farm and two acres of adjoining apron for aircraft parking.
“We have seen constant growth in private aviation traffic at the Exuma International Airport since we started our operation in December 2009,” says Steven K. Kelly, president of Odyssey Aviation Bahamas.

Odyssey originally rented office space adjacent to the main airport terminal where they offered standard FBO services, but all customs and immigration clearance was conducted at the main terminal.

“Along with the general interest in The Exumas as a destination location, the Sandals Emerald Bay Resort has played a key role in attracting private aviation customers,” said Kelly. “Odyssey focuses on creating a seamless experience from a visitor’s arrival to their departure.”
Kelly met with a local architectural firm, and used his knowledge of the Bahamas and the requirements for an Island FBO facility to design the project. Construction was managed by Odyssey.

With growing interest in the Bahamas by world travelers and the holiday and spring break season upon us, Odyssey’s expansion of handling services on the island of Eleuthera couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Holiday traffic can create significant chaos for small islands,” said Kelly. “Flight departments, more than ever, desire good service and trusted representation for their passengers on arrival. Through its handling services, Odyssey Aviation Governors Harbour (MYEM) and Odyssey Aviation Rock Sound (MYER) bring what no one else has to this market – reliability, consistency and a high level of safety and quality service.”

Eleuthera is 60 miles east of Nassau and is best known for its tiny coastal islands and secluded beaches, the most famous being Harbour Island.
